Question Tell Me What You Know About the Kawasaki FJ400D

We have an EZGO utility cart out at our campground with a Kawasaki FJ400D in it. Has a significant rod knock, sounds like it's about to break loose. Doesn't seem to be ton of information out there about these motors whether it be rebuild parts or just a new one for sale. Is this a good motor worth rebuilding or replacing? Or is it a bad design that EZGO no longer uses?

Not sure about the innards but never was impressed with its smoothness. I want the Robbins back.. I would think you could buy parts once you figured out what failed

Thanks for the info!

How does the drive clutch come off of this engine? I see a center bolt just like on the Club Cars, but is it a keyway shaft or a tapered shaft? Do they usually come off pretty easy?

Also, how heavy is the motor? Can one guy lift it out or will it take two guys?

Here are some pics of the vehicle in question:

I would think one guy could lift the motor.

Page 13 of the repair manual appears to show a shaft with keyway. Replacement clutch listings appear to show different clutches for 2008 and down versus 2009 and up.
