Help installing belt
So, I have zero experience with installing belts on anything. I bought the Gates 6098 to replace my stock belt and I can't see a way to stretch that sucker on there.
Can someone give me some tips to get it on? The stock belt pulled off without even having to roll the cart, but I can't get this one even close. There has to be a trick to it. Thanks!! |

Re: Help installing belt
Probably 1" shorter than stock. Use something to pry it on. I just hate to be the one to take if off unless you cut it

Re: Help installing belt
I know this sounds silly, but I am having trouble visualizing how to do that. I have a small pry bar that should work, but I just can't picture what I need to do. Talk about feeling stupid!
ETA: Yes, it's shorter than stock. According to the short belt thread here, it should be the right one for hills. |

Re: Help installing belt
What to do > Take the biggest screwdriver you have. Put the cart in neutral. Put mechanics gloves on if you have girly hands. Put the screwdriver blade under the belt and place the blade end on the pulley. Rotate the pulley so the screwdriver is being pulled into the pulley forcing the belt off to the side and ultimately off of the pulley. I hope this helps

Re: Help installing belt
I have had luck by putting it on the clutch first then start it on the top of the driven pulley, then rolling the cart to roll it on.

Re: Help installing belt
Thanks guys, makes perfect sense. I must have too much stress these days for me to not be able to think any clearer than that! I'll work on it.

Re: Help installing belt
This is what I tried to do, but it comes up way too short. the cart will bounce back instead of rolling the belt on. I'll try a screwdriver.
