Default G9 Eating Starter/Generator Belts

New issue. My G9 started eating starter/generator belts - like one a week. Initially thought poor belts so upgraded to kevlar. Eats them, too. Today took a drive while the latest kevlar is still alive, stopped and felt the belt. Pretty hot! Any chance the s/gen belt is doing some of the work of the clutch belt?

How much slack in belt? Any other changes like new clutch?

Any possible alignment issues ? Loose or worn hardware. Usually when a belt gets hot something is not right.

Keep the starter/generator belt fairly firm but not tight-tight. Any looseness and the belt will spin w/o spinning the motor. The first thing it does is spins off the fabric coating on the kevlar belt with belt failure not too far off.

The belts I use don't have a fabric coating on the sides, just smooth rubber.

Are you using a lawn and garden belt? If so, those are meant for engines with a clutch like on a mower. The fabric allows the belt to slip while the tension in released. Could be an issue?

Other possibility is the starter generator itself trying to seize up as it gets hot. Just throwing out another possibility.

I've tried the full rubber belt - didn't last. Switched to the kevlar to see if it would wear better - the fabric seems to be the weak link with it so I'll try the rubber again. I do agree that excess loading is a likely culprit - I'll check for starter/generator heat build up.

Just to update: I replaced the kevlar belt with an all rubber. I have monitored the temp of the belt and the starter after a couple of hourlong runs. Both warm to the touch but not hot (certainly no warmer than the engine compartment temperature). No signs of belt wear.
