Re: Yamaha Drive Parking Brake issue
Take it apart and clean / file everything to get it back to clean. Lube it properly, and I think it will work fine. It could just need lubing to get the arm to move easily and get the teeth to grab when you push on the parking brake.

Re: Yamaha Drive Parking Brake issue
Is it complicated to take apart and put back together?

Re: Yamaha Drive Parking Brake issue
Doesn't look very complicated but mine look brand new and clean. Yours look like water has been getting in there and rusting things. I have never had to disassemble mine - just adjust it.

Re: Yamaha Drive Parking Brake issue
Yours looks pretty normal for an 08. The correct way to repair it is to remove the pedal assembly and completely disassemble it. If you have come this far you might as well do it right.
Both your pawl and catch plate are definitely worn. The pedal assembly can be tricky to remove due to the rust. You may snap some of the mounting bolts. (not a big deal to repair. Just drill it out and use a nut and bolt) The brake cable will be tricky to remove and just as much fun to re-attach. Take pictures. There are a few springs in there that must be reinstalled correctly. The catch plate is a challenge because the rivets go in to blind holes. Try and file it without removing it. I use a die grinder. You need this edge to be straight for the pawl to grab it. You should remove the shaft that the brake pedal and accelerator ride on. Rust builds up in there and makes the pedals sticky. Use a good anti-seize compound/grease when re-assembling. We have probably done over a hundred of the early drive pedals. You are welcome to contact me with any questions. |

Re: Yamaha Drive Parking Brake issue
This sounds like it's a hassle. Maybe it's easy for you because you do it all the time, but would it be easier to just purchase a new pedal assembly and put that in?

Re: Yamaha Drive Parking Brake issue
You might change your mind if you find out how much it costs to have it done. I would first try lubing and adjusting before giving up. You might not have to disassemble it.

Its not easy not hard but definitely doable. I recommend that you take a stab at it before looking for a new pedal. What do you have to lose? |

Re: Yamaha Drive Parking Brake issue
I know it is not the same cart, but today I had to look at six clubcar tempos with non latching park brakes. All six just needed cable adjustment to latch solidly.
