Default G 9 clutch issue

just picked up a 1991 i believe g9, very erratic clutch, took the cover off and everything looks brand new, seems like atouch of the gas off idle and the clutch slams in making it impossible to take off smoothly, driven was stuck, got that freed up and working, with the belt off i can push the outer sheav in with no resistance, I have other clutches that have like spring tension so when you push the sheav in it comes back out, any help would be appreciated.

Primary has no spring the secondary does. Not clear which one you are asking about ?

As ray said the primary/drive clutch has no spring. With the belt removed you should be able to easily slide the clutch open and closed.

The rear driven/secondary clutch is a different story.

I would look closely at the cover on the primary clutch (the one connected to the engine). Spin it over and look for dents on it coming from the inside to the outside. This indicates a broken flyweight inside the clutch.

Erratic take offs can be caused by worn or incorrect drive belts, if worn or too long the drive clutch can get a "run' at the belt and lurch.
