82 Yamaha G1, CDI test?
Getting very weak spark, even with new plug.
Does this sound like something that may be caused by a bad CDI or what might it be? How do you test the CDI? |

Re: 82 Yamaha G1, CDI test?
The CDI control unit cannot be tested directly. Replace it with a known good unit to eliminate that possibility, or test all the inputs. If they all check out, it is probably the control unit. Failures are not common, but do happen. Generally the control unit works fine or does not work at all (no spark). If you are getting any spark at all, your control unit is probably OK. Search this forum for "G1 no spark" for more info on how to test the pickup coils and ignition coil. Check your harness for loose and corroded connectors and chafed wires that will cause a voltage drop. Have you tested your battery to be sure it is good?
