Problem charging new 48V system

One other thing isf the previous owner bypassed the OBC in order U may want to take the jumper out if it exist.

and we're back! We thought we had it working as the charger cut on and then turned itself back off. But now that we have run it a bit to wear down batteries the charger cuts on, goes off, then comes back on and back off. Odd! Any ideas where to begin diagnosing? The cabling seems to be correct.

We took it by a diff't repair shop today and the guy said that this Club Car charger "will not" charge an 8 battery system. It was only designed for 6. I dn't really see how the charger "knows" we have 8 to form 48V instead of 6 but could he be right?

He suggested 1.)taking a splice off the black wire runnging from the OBC to the controller and connecting it to the #8 battery neg. If that doesn't work he said to 2.) remove the OBC from the wiring completely and get a non-club car charger. That's pretty much how it was to begin w/ except w/ 36V of batteries. Any thought on these suggestions?

the charger doesn't know the difference.

im not sure i follow what hes saying with 1.) ... moving that connection shouldn't make any difference.

*edit* never mind. that will make a difference... moving that connection will bypass the current measurement of the OBC while charging. not sure if thats a good idea as the OBC will always see more Ah consumed than replaced, possibly overcharging and/or unnecessary conditioning.

OK I re-read the entire thread tonight I do not see anywhere where the OBC has been reset

And let it run until the buzzer stops , wait 15 minutes and reconnect.

PS. anytime the charger is unplugged , U need to wait +15 seconds before re-plugging again , for the OBC to re-test , just a FYI .

Will try the reset tomorrow. I wonder if the concern w/ the # of batteries could be the way the charger operates. If I read the manual on the Sticky correctly the OBC memorizes how much charge is lost in operation. Does the charger then read the load across the string to replace that much charge? I guess it owuld take longer to charge 8 batteries instead of 6 possibly but would the charger even know that if it goes from the total measurement?

yes.

no. charge / discharge rates are not affected by adding or subtracting cells in series.

if you think about it, you have the same number of cells as a 6 x 8V setup (24), you just reconfigured the way they are housed. the obc knows there are 24 cells in series, the number of cases they are stored in is incidental.

reset didn't work. Charger does its test then shut off, then turned back on and hummed for about 1 minute reading 13 then turned off again.
