Hey Dave - What can I expect if I bore my jug .50 over and drop in a .50 over piston instead of going with a new jug and standard piston. Will I notice a difference in the HP?

Craig,

By going 0.500 oversize you will change your bore from 72mm to 72.5mm. This will result in an increase of 1.4 % in your cylinder capacity. In other words your cylinder will increase from 244 cc to 247 cc. Bearing in mind the old adage "there is no substitute for cubes" yes you will increase the horsepower. Will you notice it? Yes indeed, it is called the placebo effect. Clean the plug, cart runs better, clean the filter, cart runs better, clean the cart..... well it works for me. Seriously I don't think it will make any difference. I bought the standard engine rebuild kit and if I blow the piston I think I will just get another kit delivered to the door.

Still now is a great time for you to prove a theory of mine (and the best part of this plan is that it is your cart and your dime). So find a dyno and test your engine. If EZGO lie like Ford I expect you have about 7hp. Now rebuild your cart with the 3PG piston which has the extra port for fuel transfer. Now dyno the cart again. If you see a worthwhile improvement we can all modify our carts and you will be a God amongst men.

Or you could just take the girly option (like me) and not take the risk.

Dave

Thanks Dave - I believe I am going with the 3pg piston and .50 over. It will still probably be awhile before I get her finished to see the results, I started this project before my taxes thinking I had plenty of money to spend, now that the taxes are done, things seem to have gotten a little tighter. Anyway I will keep posting as I go.
Thanks Again - Craig

This isn't the *exact* model I bought but is very similar, the ones I bought (I liked it so much I grabbed a spare while they still had 'em) are basically identical but the entire unit is potted in plastic to keep it even more waterproof:

Basically, the coil mentioned above (the GM) should do you just fine, although it will physically be a bit bigger - either way, I prefer to relocate as much of the electrical as high as possible to keep it dry, etc (my cart gets a good dose of water, mud, etc so better safe than sorry I always say)

if you bore it .50 over, you will be buying a new cyl. .50 = 1/2 ".

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought .50 over was 1/2mm, I thought they went by mm not inches? You guys probably know more than me though.

That's the calculation I used 0.5 mm which increases the bore diameter from 72 mm to 72.5 mm
