Default J38 piston

I am rebuilding a spare engine that i have for my G9 and it needs a new piston so I was wandering if anyone has used any of the aftermarket piston and rings that are advertised on some of the sites or should I go with OEM

one other question, Yamaha shows three different part numbers for rod bearings and there is a color after each one, Brown-Blue-Black how do you tell which ones you need?

Hope this doesn't sound "obtrusive" (hehe, alway's wanted to use that word), Since I'm a Yamaha dealer, I only use OEM parts. I have used "aftermarket" top end kits (for other makes) and if your very carefull to not break the "sometimes brittle rings" you should be fine. I alway's like buying the highest quality parts and doing the job right, the first time. As for the rod bearings, originally the crank web would have a number and the rod (ink stamped, good luck with that!) would have another, you'd take the numbers to find the correct rod bearings. The best I can tell you is use the "black" j38-11656-10-00, or use plastic gauge per factory service manual. Good luck

Thanks for the advise. Plastic guage is what I was thinking only problem is you have to have the new bearings to check, guess i can order the black one first.
