Trying to identify a Club Car
Hello, I hope this is in the right area but I m trying to identify a Club Car a neighbor has for sale and I want to know what I am looking at and options if I want to purchase it. From what he tells me it was on Galveston Island when Ike came thru and ended up full of sea water. The motor is toast, prob the electronics as well but if I could possibly bolt up another motor I could manage the electrical. Anyway, just need help trying to figure out what year and engine this one has. I did not know where to look for a plate and serial number so I took a lot of pictures. Any help is appreciated.

If it was full of sea water, run away as fast as you can

Re: Trying to identify a Club Car
Well I am not trying to fix that engine at all. I just figure the chassis is good and I could source another engine and mate it up. Harbor Freight sells a 14hp Predator (I guess they are an ok brand) engine for $350 and I was looking at this as a first option until I was prob told other wise by one of you guys. If the axle and bearings need attention that seems minor as the guy only wants about 200 bucks for everything.

Re: Trying to identify a Club Car
That is a BIG job to do correctly. EVERY part will need attention. Sea water doesn't just wash off of metal. It needs to be REMOVED from the metal, or it will just continue to grow fuzz and ruin your project. Be prepared for...........anything.

I'd buy it for 200 bucks! What's a little work. Would be a great project.

Look just above the foot pedals. There's a serial number. Take a pic and post it. The first two numbers are the year.

Re: Trying to identify a Club Car
Just by the pictures... It looks to be a DS 2000+, with most likely an FE290
(The canopy (roof), seat backs, and unitized transaxle are all hinting this to me!) I'm guessing you already know that this may be a larger project then you think, I, personally wouldn't do it, the time and expense of a complete rebuild of an IKE cart have came back and bitten quite a few here! Re: Trying to identify a Club Car
Heck the body, wheels, tires, lift, and anything else besides oiled internal moving parts or electrical might be worth it. Buy another DS cart that needs cosmetics and a lift and mix it all up.
