When I got my cart, the motor was blown (that's why I got it). I tore into my engine twice trying to "rebuild" it. But both attempts were unsuccessful, not because of incorrect assembly but because I was trying to make one good motor from two bad ones. Both motors had thrown their rods, and as I found out, both cranks were egged-out and knocked after I mounted the new rod on them. Live & learn I guess. I ended up buying a running used motor fom someone locally. Those rebuild kits aren't cheap.

But if you do buy a rebuild kit, you should have much better luck. These engines are very simple machines.

Here's the thread where I had the motor apart:

And here's the thread for my cart in general, starting with the day I got it:

So, with mild weather approaching, its time to get back on tgis beast. Another question. When installing headlights, where would i connect the hot wire to so that the lights only turn on when the key is in the on position? Im guessing the key is pretty much an on/off switch for the electric supply.

Yeah you could connect it that way. Is there a reason you need it wired like that? My lights are wired so that they come on, key or no key.

Here's the wiring diagram:

Yeah it will but not recommended. I should have said my key switch energizes a 12v relay. That relay powers my fuse box which feeds the radio, lights, gauges etc

+1 for 12v 30A relay and fuse panel!

Here's what I got:
For wiring:
  • Tie a wire into terminal "M+" on the key switch (if I remember correctly, it's blue and goes to the solenoid) and attach it to terminal 85 on the relay.
  • Tie relay terminal 86 to frame ground.
  • Tie relay terminal 30 to your main positive from your battery.
  • Tie relay terminal 87 to your main buss positive on the new fuse panel.
  • Tie your main buss ground to frame ground on the new fuse panel.

Now when you wire, just drop in the appropriate rated fuse, and wire up your lights, horn, etc. with 1/4" spade female terminals.

Anyone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - going by memory and the IPL...
