Check the switch as knothead said. I was working on a project and and had purchased 2 switches and when I wired everything up I was testing my connections and found that both switches would still allow electricity to flow through. I replaced the cheap switches with a better switch and everything worked fine.

It has to be the switch. Don't have the lights or the switch grounded do you? Disconnect the wire between the switch and the lights
ell us about your switch toggle? two pole single throw etc. |

Is this a lighted toggle switch, with a third connection for it to remain lit?
