Help with a Dana Spicer H-12 Electric rear transaxle
Hi everyone,
I have a 2005 Toro Workman e2050 with a Dana Spicer H-12 Electric transaxle. I'm trying to do an oil change on the axle and having trouble figuring it out. Does anyone have the service manual for the transaxle? I think it's used in EZGO carts as well. I've seen an older manual linked here but the model is different and it doesn't seem to have the procedure for an oil change. The car service manual specifies 1.9 liters (2 quarts) of 10w30 oil. I've drained the axle and got about 1 liter. And have only been able to put back around 1liter as well. That could just be because the fill plug is hard to use. Would it be ok to fill it using the vent? Is 2 quarts really the correct amount? Thanks, Pedro |

Re: Help with a Dana Spicer H-12 Electric rear transaxle
Thanks I had seen the PDF but not the thread. This is definitely a different version of the diff. My diff has a flatter bottom cover and two plugs, one at the bottom and one on the side. The user manual says to fill up to the one on the side and that it should take 2 quarts (1.9 liters) in total. This thread shows that for this model you only put in 10oz which if I'm doing the conversion right is only 0.3 liters.
Here's the exploded view of my diff from Toro's website: The drain plug is 7:1 and the fill plug is 24. The vent that has a rubber hose attached is 23. That's the one I'm wondering if I should use to fill it. |

Your oil capacity is what kept me from posting a link.

Re: Help with a Dana Spicer H-12 Electric rear transaxle
I've used a small oil hand pump to finish filling up the diff. I don't think I got the total 2 quarts in but it should be close.
This would be much easier using the vent. The tube attached to it leads me to believe the previous owner used it for oil changes. Guess I can try that next time. |

If your previous owner knew to change the oil, you're lucky. My buggy never got zerks greased and never got a rear-end job.
