Re: 36v to 12v converter
The yellow and black wires get hooked to the same place that your cart wiring was originally connected to power! The converter is simply just your new power source. Where are your lights currently wired? My guess is they are wired to a pair of batteries in the main battery pack. If so, disconnect those wires from the batteries and connect them to the yellow and black wires.

I also bought a scotty b reducer a while back. If you have several accessories to hook up, I would suggest getting a fuse block. They sell them with a negative buss. I believe that is what he was trying to show you with the attached diagram above.

Re: 36v to 12v converter
Any marine shop has them, as boats aren't negatively grounded. They are also more corrosion resistant than a cheaper automotive one, that won't have the negative bus. Blue-sea makes good stuff. Though it's pricy, it will last.

Re: 36v to 12v converter
Those wire colors sound like the reducer they sell on Amazon. If so, my recommendation would be to not worry about hooking it up and just return it. The one I bought managed to run a set of LED headlights for 3 whole hours before it fried.
