Restoration
Working on a 1991 EZ GO Marathon 2 cycle gas cart. Was in pretty bad shape before I started. Replaced all micro switches, new solenoid, new carb, removed oil injection etc. Gave it a try Saturday and it would start and run with F N R lever in reverse but nothing when lever in forward. If I shift from reverse to forward the engine shuts off. The reverse buzzer sounds in both reverse and forward. Wired according to a schematic I printed off the internet of an 1985~1993 cart. Any ideas as to what could be the problem?

Re: Restoration
My initial thought is micro switches at the f n r switch, one is for the reverse buzzer and the other is for ignition (if it's like my 85). Perhaps the reverse buzzer is wired with the ignition wires and the ignition micro switch is wired with the reverse buzzer wires??
When you shift out of reverse the ignition is getting cut which is what the reverse micro switch is suppose to do, and when in either position the reverse buzzer is sounding which is what the ignition micro switch is suppose to do It could be the switches are wired correctly but installed in each others spot on the f n r switch (if that's possible), but with your symptoms I'd aim in that area. Good Luck |

Re: Restoration
Thanks so much for the input. Could it be a defective FNR switch as it is the original

Re: Restoration
This is the correct wiring diagram. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...7&d=1323224205
Let's start with the microswitches. The switch on the driver's side of the FnR switch is for the backup buzzer. The switch on the lower passenger side of the FnR switch is the neutral safety switch. I believe you have them wired backwards. The key switch has a wire with a fuse coming from the big lug of the solenoid. That is the hot side of the key switch. Your backup buzzer switch should be wired to that terminal. It is always hot. They keyed side of the switch should be wired in series with the neutral switch, and the pedal switch, and then go to a small terminal on the solenoid. The other small solenoid terminal goes to ground. |
