Default 2000 cc gas speed

ok i just got a 2000 club car all i have done to it so far i put a tie strap in the gov. spring and i have it runnning just under the cut out rpm. So my ? is what can i do to speed this thing up i do have some hills to climb so i need more speed and more tq. for the hills. I checked the speed with a gps after the tie strap and i now have it running 14.6 mph , that sucks so in need some help. i have read a lot of the board info on mods. and i just want some one to tell me which ones i should do for my needs. also how fast are these carts stock, and what rpm does the limiter kill the engine at. My cart right now has stock tires but my plains are to lift the cart and install larger tires but i want to make sure it is not going to kill the power for the hills thanks to all for the info.

The stock speed for a "normal" golf car is about 12 mph. Make sure your stock clutch isn't grooved and worn out, if it is you aren't getting stock power. Also, check your belts for wear, that can cause power loss as well.

To get the power you need

This may be your route of choice at that point it stops being a "golf car"

the big block kit is something i like but not going to spend the money on now. i played today and got it to 15 5 mph a little better but i read of stock motors going 23 mph and faster this is where i would like to start i am not trying to go 40 i just want to make the right changes so as to not loose tq. I read about the clutch work but there seems like there are different ways to go, spring or no spring machine drive or driven or both.i guess what i need is for some of the guys that have done this to tell me which way to go. thanks for the help

I can tell you from experience that bigger tires will kill your torque.

My 87 CC runs 20-24.7 depending on if the windshield is up or down. It has Sun City gears in it. What are sun city gears? The old farts around here have taller gear put in the carts for more top end because where we live they are street legal(mostly) and they want them to go faster. These gears also kill the torque. Ya can't have both(speed and torque) with thesae old flat heads, at least I haven't found a way.
