if it is the valve stem seals it will be hard to determine they usually aren't
that obvious. a bad seal may still look good. if you got it apart they are cheap and easy to replace without tearing too far in to the engine. i still have not fully discovered what made mine smoke. valve seals looked good, compression was 165 oil ring looked ok but another thing that could be decieving. here is what i THINK my problem was. the head gasket had one spot wore out from the cyl wall to the lifter channel, which the oil will fall back into the bottom end through. I'll post a pic when i figure it out for some reason my cell phone pic files are too large to send.

well I put I put new valve steam seals on my cart engine and noticed that
their was a seal missing on the exhaust valve . so kinda explains where all the smoke was coming from . now I just need to figure how to get all the
oil out of the muffler .

Stick the muffler on the BBQ grill. Never tried it myself but I hear it works rather well !!

my neighbor was suggesting putting some gas in there ,
indeed a great idea I think the combination
of gas and roasting it in a camp fire might work
not sure I would want to BBQ meat after cooking a muffler

My 99 smokes too at times. Sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. It really depends on i have no idea. It is all stock. Has over 160 psi compression, I changed the oil & filters. I think its the valve guides as it runs real strong. Maybe the top of the head where the seals are at are holding more oil than they are suppose too and causing it get passed the seals like it does on certain chevy trucks with the tbi setup from the 90s.

SO matt H did it fix the problem or you do not know yet so I can buy the seals also and fix mine

its most likely fixed .
figure it was blowing steady oil into exhaust port
Little excess oil reaching the cylinder or very little ,
I did notice the oil was spoiling rather quick
also extreme amount of smoke at high RPMS .
smoke was far beyond what a motor normally could complete the four stroke combustion process
with most of the power still being their

The oil pump pushes oil to the top of the engine but gravity makes it fall to the sump. If the return channels are partially blocked the valve cover will fill with oil and if you have a damaged missing stem seal......

The higher the RPM the more oil gets pumped.

Might be worth running a straightened coat hanger down the oil channels.

Another 2 cents

the high RPM's created excess heat , heating up the muffler where all the blown out oil was kept . ultimately smoking
