hour and tach gauges

I'm needing some suggestions on aftermarket hour meters and tachometers.
Where did you get your gauges and are they holding up? Also any advice on trouble-shooting the original hour meter on a 2000 Carryall. Meter lights up but reads 17.5 hrs. (can't be right) Thanks in advance for any gauge discussion- Hoodawoo

I got a tiny tach it's a digital tach with a hour meter, the price between $30 & $40. bought it online , can't remember were, could of been E bay. It is easy to install, I have had it about 13 months with no problems. the draw back to this tach is it has a internal battery that is not replaceable, TT claims average battery life is five years.

So how does it work? where does it mount?

It is about only about 1&3/4 inch long & a little over an inch wide with a mounting hole on each side. I mounted mine to my dash. It has two leads coming out of it a red and a black or a red and a white, any way the end of the red wraps around the OUTSIDE of your spark plug cable three times & the other goes to ground. (EASY)

If yor thinking about bypassing your gov. might want to consider who all will be riding it & will you be there to tell them not to get over a certain # of RPMs this is the reason I refused to by pass my dad's gov. just to many people ride it including kids.( just food for thought.)

That is good advice... Well I was thinking about maybe raising the govenor speed to the reasonable limit. What was that rpm? 4200? and stock was set like 1000 rpm below it?
I got this cart with stock 350cc and 23 inch tires are just chocking it I'm sure... Well been busy trying to add to the lift in front so tires cleared and turned...

The Only deal with tinytachs is the 2 second delay. May not sound like much, but it is. I'd try to find an analog that would work. Some people have em on various forums.

With a 350 you should turn 23's easy, especially if they're an all terrain tire ( it think they are..?) I had 22" mudlites and theyd turn with a ol 98 fe 290 that had been sunk in a lake...

I use the Tiny Tach also, 2 years no problems. The delay never bothered me
and I believe it's less than 2 seconds. I got mine from CPP.

If your only going to bring the RPM's up to 4200, you shouldn't need a tach!

With my FE350, I have it set at 4600 RPM's in maint. mode,
so when climbing a hill, or on flat ground the RPM's are lower when the cart is "under load",
when going down a hill, it will run up to the full 4600, so I won't run it that long!
(I don't have a tach... I just listen!)

I personally stress 4200 RPM's, because the people with the smaller FE290's will tend to do what I did...
push their FE290's limits, and their valves will start to "float" around 4500 RPM'S...
then cause havoc on the engine!
I was assured that the stock FE350 can handle it! but I don't know the limitations,
or what the RPM's are when the valves will start to "float" on the FE350,
but, I'm happy running @ 28.6 MPH!!!
