Re: G1 Clutch RPM
Get a G2/9 trans and high speed gears. The stock CVT does a .9 overdrive, so your engine rpm times about 1.1 is the secondary rpm. That assumes your primary is the same diameter as stock and is shifting properly. The trans is 13:1 ratio so about 11 overall (times tire diameter). I would guess a G1 is very close to that the carts are very similar aside from the engine.
If you have a 400 scrambler engine its 38hp at 5750 rpm. You can modify it for more rpm. If you have a sled engine they made a lot of them hard to say, most run 7K give or take. Yours would be about 24mph at 5K rpm, so it must be running faster if you have 18" tires. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/speed-calculator.php My G9 stock will run 30gps at around 5K rpm with 22 tires. |

Re: G1 Clutch RPM
Does the G2/9 trans have a reverse gear?
When I swapped out the engine I lost reverse and I don't really want to build a custom ignition system. The engine is not running at peak performance at the moment. I am using the exhaust pipe that came with the cart, I have not re-jetted the engine, and I have no air filter (I know this is bad). That said, It still hits 6k rpm and gets up to full speed quite quickly. |

Re: G1 Clutch RPM
What engine is this? ATV or Sled? Size?
How fast are you trying to go? Goundpounder was going 45mph with a Polaris 330 4 stroke with stock G2 rear gearing. I know he widened it, but I think the gears stayed the same. 45 mph is pretty fast on a cart.... If we are talking about a Polaris atv 250 cc 2 stroke, those were good for 17-23 hp and were pretty revvy. The 400cc was like 30-40 hp. Each of these engines have the power and rpm to go 40-50 mph with the right gearing. I'd think what you might want is the stock Polaris primary clutch, stock polaris secondary clutch (might have to machine to fit), and rear end/gears of your choice. It might be easier to look at other builds to see what rear end they used and what kind of speed they got. Look in the big block section and see what the Clone engined carts are like. But you shouldn't have to do much to get 45 or 50 mph with a good running sled/atv engine. |

Re: G1 Clutch RPM
The clone will not rev, it runs same speed as stock but gets there much faster (30mph with 22s). I'm trying a few things with mine to get some more rpm.
Right you should at minimum try the clutch and exhaust that came on the engine, to make it run right. A 250cc sled will run 50mph on snow. I had a 550 UTV up to 57 the other day, its much heavier than a cart and I think maybe a little left in it yet plus it had a full windshield on the front. |

Re: G1 Clutch RPM
Well, I swapped out the exhaust for the one that shipped with the engine and now I have more speed. The engine cost me $50 and then i paid $100 for the pipe.
With the correct pipe the cart runs quite a bit faster and the throttle response is much better. The engine is revving up to 7.5k now. The original clutch isn't handling this too well though. The drive belt actually came off at full speed and shredded the starter belt. I think I over worked the brakes too.... More speed seems to bring more problems but man is it fun! |

Re: G1 Clutch RPM
Wow been a while but glad you got it figured out. Seems like the 2 stroke engines always run better with a pipe that was designed for them. How fast are you running now?
