1985 Club Car wont move in reverse

My 1985 Club Car runs great no tranny noises but will not go in reverse. The shifter works and the linkage seems to be moving enough to work. Any suggestions? One more question what does the " maintenence mode " switch do?

Maintenance mode switch allows you to run the motor in neutral without the cart moving. Simple as flipping the spring-loaded yellow plastic cam on the back of the shifter (in engine compartment). It will only lock into two positions (normal mode and maintenance mode).

Check your micro switch on the back of the shifter lever (also inside the engine compartment, above the maintenance mode cam) and make sure all of the wires are connected and no terminals are broken on it. Does the cart motor run when in reverse or does it do nothing at all?

It starts in reverse but feels like the brakes are locked up when it starts and you give it some gas. Tries to move but nothing just like locked up brakes feel.

try rocking the cart back and forth real hard, i have heard this before and you can get to unlock by rocking it back and forth.....sounds funny but it works............................................. ..
