Default 2015 Precedent EFI issues - common?

I'm turning my EZGO engine swap into a winter project.

There is a 2015 Club Car Precedent available locally. It seems to drive nicely. Before buying it, I'm reading the forums here and it sounds like these EFI engines have problems that can be very expensive!

1) Would you recommend staying away from one of these carts?

2) If the problems are frequent, is there a carburator kit workaround?

Maybe I'm just overthinking this. Just trying to do my homework before purchasing.

Thanks for any thoughts or advice!

I wouldn't say that they're plagued by problems, but they do have a reputation. Yes, if the FI system fails, it gets very expensive to replace the FI parts.
We have one that's a 2014 and have had no issues from it, at least not related to the FI system. But I assume that it's just a matter of time before something goes.

I've looked into carb conversions for these because the EX40 is used in tons of power equipment with a carb, but I haven't got any solid info about whether it would work on the CC variant of the engine. Most of those are designed to be run off the engine governor which the CC version of the engine doesn't have. It looks like the EX40 carb should just bolt right in place of the TB/injection unit, but I haven't seen it done yet. That doesn't mean someone else hasn't tried it.

Thanks for your perspective. Noodling around, it seems that Club Car says that if you replace the ECU you need to replace the throttle body as well (not sure why). If, as mentioned in another thread here that you're looking at a $3K solution that way, I'll figure out some way to use a carb instead.

I've already got one cart project, so I don't need another one. But with the wild prices people are asking for golf carts these days, I think I'll grab the Club Car deal while I can. My plan then will be to fix the EZGO over the winter and then sell one of them on the spring.

But, we all know how well best laid plans go ... :)

If it's a good deal I would go for it.
Worst comes to worst, the EX40 is a counter clockwise motor and you can replace it with almost any 11-15hp single cyl motor.

The only issue with the EX40 is the FI parts are 'mated'. As in if you have to replace the ECU or Fuel Injector you have to replace ALL the FI components and that can make it super expensive. Great when they run, very expensive when they don't.

The EZGO EX1 is ten times worse. We are starting to see those lately--the starter is internal, not a standard starter generator, there's ZERO schematics or parts to buy for them, and they always have the issue of up and stalling and not restarting randomly. Now that engine is total garbage. It's anemic, impossible to get support/parts for, and it's another EZGO solution to the issue the Kawasakis had--being noisy/vibrating. The EX1 is their way to bring back the quiet and smoothness of the old Robin engine. Personally I feel they should have never got rid of the Robin to begin with.
