Shorter Belts or 28 degree driven clutch?
Before you redirect me to the tech section, I have read through every page of that thread and poured over each post looking for an answer to my question and I am sorry but I just can't find it.
My question is, does anyone know what smaller belt I need for my 1993 2-Cycle EZ-Slow? Or do I go with a 28 degree clutch? This thing is so slow up hills I could get out and walk next to it. I called Tom at CartPartsPlus and he gave me some advice. I was ready to buy all new clutches to try and get some power out of this turd and he told me to save my money and buy a new cart or motor. Not many people in the business of selling parts would give you an honest answer instead of making some money. I will now trust them for anything I will ever need in the future. So, thanks to BGW for introducing me to CartPartsPlus. And thank you for any input. |

TG, I'm gonna guess that Tom was telling you to get a new motor because your motor may be tired or just shot. I suspect that your tourqe issues may be a result of bad compression.
Before you spend any more money chasing it, what is your compression? |

That's EXACTLY what I would have said if you called me. Your old 2 cycle isn't worth spending the $$$.$$ on clutches / belts.
BTW - There is no 28 degree clutch for a 2 cycle... Kudos to Tom! |

It pumped at 115. I had never heard of testing it with an open throttle so this was at closed throttle. BU told me that was fine for this motor. I hope you guys tell me the same Tom @ CPP told me this particular 2-cycle is notoriously under powered and, in so many words told me what my father used to say about some of our cars "I could spend all my money polishing the turd, but in the end all I get is an expensive, shiny turd."

115 at closed throttle? Never done it that way, you need open throttle for a true compression test. Sounds like the motor may be fine then, but won't know until you give the oped reading to us

Re: Shorter Belts or 28 degree driven clutch?
I just search myself and the suggested yamaha belt (39") is 1-3/4 inches shorter than stock (1-3/16 x 40-3/4) .... I think that 1.5 inch will be too short?

Re: Shorter Belts or 28 degree driven clutch?
I just contacted Gates belts directly and they were very helpful but had nothing.
However Dayco has a Dimensional Belt Search Engine. http://accessdayco.com/dimensional-lookup I put my dimensions in and it found the belt I need. Dayco HP2015 ( 39.766 x 1.188 ) and the stock recommended belt for the 90's 2-Cycles is HP2013 ( 40.75 x 1.188 ) I just ordered it from Autozone for $30, lets hope this makes a difference! I hope Dayco's belt look-up and this info helps somebody else! |
