2003 Yamaha G22 Carb Adjustments

I just rebuilt the carb for G22 and cleaned out the body, etc. My question is how do I set the jet adjustments initially now that the carb has new jets? Something like "1.5 turns back from lightly all the in" That sort of thing. I appreciate the help.

Start with 1.5 turns out. That carb should have had a epa limiter cap on it.

Hi cgtech. I am new to this so I'm hoping you will tolerate some follow up questions. I see in my shop manual that the carb has: a throttle stop screw, a Pilot Screw, a Pilot Jet, a Main Jet and a Main Nozzle. I am confused as to which of these requires adjustment and which simply get snugged up and don't need adjustment.
Thanks for the guidance.

Only the throttle stop screw and air mixture screw (the one with the black limiting cap are adjustable that gctech was referring to) are adjustable. Even the float is not adjustable any more.

Quick follow up question: Are the aftermarket carbs worth buying? The factory carb is $115 to $165 versus around $20. The answer seems obvious but if an aftermarket works well, I would rather put the difference into accessories. Thanks.

That's a hit or miss situation. Some work, some don't. Best bet is to rebuild the factory carb with OEM parts.

Ive never seen an aftermarket one last more than a year.

You can adjust the plastic floats.

There is really little to no adjustment on the carb. They are not rocket science to make them run right.

I work on hundreds of gas cars a year and replace less than a handful of carbs a year. They really don't go bad, but every once in awhile you get one that just wont run right no matter what you do.

Agreed, fix your OEM Mikuni carb, even if the parts to do so cost a little more than a whole new junker China carb. The China carb is not a better deal. Keep in mind that most places won't let you return the China carb once it's been installed, even if it is a unusable pile of garbage.

So, the carb that is on it say "Mokini", with an "O", not Mukini, with a "U". Am I correct that Mokini is an after market carb?
