Broke internal shaft
I'm a newbie at golf carts. I just bought a used Yamaha g9 gas cart for $150. Excuse the "terminology" but looking at the engine from the primary clutch side, the internal right shaft ( counter shaft?) is broke. The camshaft and crankshaft both came out easy but this shaft seemed to be stuck. I watched videos of the shaft coming out with ease. Not this one. The end of the shaft broke off in the housing. I'm thinking of welding a bolt to the broke end in the case and trying to extract. I have pictures but I can't post because I'm on a iPhone. Any better advice?

You can post pics from your phone by tapping on "go advanced", then tap on the paper clip in the pop up screen. Tap "choose file" and that will take you to photos!!

Re: Broke internal shaft
I believe what you are talking about is the "balance shaft". Bad news is the case is surely damaged & gouged up in the bore where the broken piece is stuck. The good news is the motor can live without it. As far as i know, its only reason for being there is to control what is called NVH in the automotive world (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), vibration is the key word here. A one cylinder engine is by its nature a "shaky" lil fella. Once you get the broken piece out and clean everything up, if you can live with a little extra vibration, the motor should be fine. Those old yamaha motors are pretty tough, i took a seized-up one, broke it free (didnt even open it up, just a breaker-bar & a pipe), added oil & nothing else, drove it for over a year.

Re: Broke internal shaft
That motor looks so nasty compared to most, plan on new bearings throughout the engine. YUK! Sorry for the yummy news.
