Default Brake Light switch is iffy - Onward / Precedent

EDIT: Realized that the switch is a pad inside the actual brake pedal and not a switch actuated by the movement of the lever...

It's working OK now that I know this but can't delete the post.

It will still help others down the road. Those are usually aftermarket add-ons like from Red Hawk.

You're right - it could help others with questions.

So to any looking at this, my assumption was that the brake pedal itself moved or actuated a switch somewhere under or behind the pedal, or along the linkage.

I wanted to make sure my brake lights were working properly and noticed when pressing the pedal by hand (moving the lever) it sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. I thought I had a dirty or faulty switch, or maybe it was loose. Turns out I was moving the brake lever, not pressing the pad part - like you would with your foot, so that is why it sometimes worked when I was testing it (sometimes I pressed on the pad and didn't just move the lever).

This is on a stock Onward, maybe others use a different setup.

All Club Car Precedent/Onwards/Tempos built since the Gen 2 pedal assembly came out mid-year in 2008 have used the pressure style brake switch mounted behind the rubber brake pedal cover. Any linkage style brake light switch you see on these cars is aftermarket. Factory has always used the pressure switch on these cars.

I have never done it, But I think it was Sergio who showed how to install a simple generic motorcycle brake light switch underneath.

Could help if the pressure switch becomes problematic.

Why don't you take a couple photos of what you are talking about. I'm sure you have some nice cameras!
