Default Club Car Charging issues

We took our Club Car in to get it fixed and it was there for almost a year because the owner of the shop said he was hoping we wouldn't be back to retrieve it. They said that they drove it around and the batteries are completely dead so we should charge each battery separately before hooking up all of the batteries and connecting the power drive charger. After doing so the power drive charger would kick on for about 5 minutes before a switch on the charger would click and turn the charger off. Problem was that the charger never actually completed a charge. So my dad decided it was fully charged and took off on a 2 mile trip with it. When he got back the orange light indicating the batteries were low was on. So I hooked it back up to the Power drive Charger and now they will not charge. Any idea what the problem could be?

Unfortunately, your batteries are probably in need of replacement. If the batteries, cabled together in series, don't provide a minimum voltage for the charger, then the charger will not turn on. Charging each battery separately may provide the minimum charge needed to get the charger to kick on, but that's about it. The charger most likely kicks off because the batteries are just about dead.

Just make sure to get 12V golf cart batteries. Don't attempt to use regular 12V automotive batteries, unless you want lots of problems.

There are many opinions on how to spend your money on golf cart batteries.

Read the "Sticky" on Golf Cart Battery Comparisons.

You can Google a search and get tons of places.

Sam's Club sells them also, but they carry the Energizer brand, and not the Trojans. Trojans are considered the best, and you pay for it. I bought the Energizers, because I got a great deal on them (and I needed 6 for my 36V cart).

Could go with 6-8 volt batteries.

If this was my cart I would talking with the dealer about what happened to my batteries while he had it in his shop for a year. A year of neglect would kill good batteries and at about $600 a set it is no small thing to be replacing them..... perhaps he can help you get a set at his cost or somehow help since he was no help fixing the cart and may have actually quickened their demise?

Good point. I thought that the original comment below was kind of strange... why wouldn't the shop owner want to do a timely repair?
