Default 2005 TXT, service and engine questions

Just got a rebuilt 2005 TXT last week.

How can I tell what motor it has?

What kind of service does it need?
Anyone run synthetic oil in them? I use Mobil 1 in about everything.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

The engine cc size should be on a sticker on the timing cover just behind the primary clutch on the mci, which is the type of engine you should have. You should have a 295cc seeing you have a txt model. That is standard in most club carrying carts in the txt series. The 350 is usually seen in the workhorse or utility models, but the 350cc will bolt right up in the 295's place. As far as maintenance goes, the usual four stroke upkeep will do. I usually just check plugs, change oil and keep the valves properly adjusted. There is some controversy on which oil is the right one to use. Personally, I use straight 30w in most all my four stroke air cooled engines. Some prefer 10w 30 but its your preference. If you like the synthetic, then use it. I like the thicker oil like 30w. I'm sure the question will come up about performance issues so I will tell you that there are several cheap mods that you can do to this engine to help it perform if you desire it. I hope this answers your questions. If not ask some more and BGW can help!!

Check out the tech section just below the gas ez go header. The procedure and clearance values are contained in the thread. You will need a feeler gauge but it's relatively easy. I will say this, if you are not noticeing any clacking or noise from the valves or loss of power I probably wouldnt mess with it. If you are inclined mechanically its no big deal, 10 min check tops. If you are not mechanically inclined you could get the adjustment out of whack where it can't run. Hope this helps and check out that valve adjustment thread!
