replaced solenoid, now nothing
I have a 96 model 36v and just replaced the solenoid. I thought I had wired correctly (obviously not) and when I turned it on I got a small "pop" sound and a very small amount of smoke coming from the wires of the solenoid. I am getting nothing now when trying to run. On item to mention is that the old solenoid had a black wire crossing over from the two small posts so I rewired the same. It is a small wire with a transister looking something in the middle of it.
Did I blow the new solenoid? The controller? Or is the black wire the issue? New to cart ownership so any help would be appreciated. |

Re: replaced solenoid, now nothing
To clarify.............the black wire mentioned in the last post seems to be a diode. It was crossing from the two small posts on the old solenoid so I did the same when wiring the new one.

Re: replaced solenoid, now nothing
Hate to keep adding to my own post but...........while tighting up the bolts on the large solenoid posts and I touched the wrench to the other post. The key was on and I had the pedal depressed. The cart lurched forward. Thought this might be of some help

Re: replaced solenoid, now nothing
if your lucky you have popped the diode ifthats what it was and not a resistor.........but theres a chance its the solenoid.....jack rear up and jump solenoid if cart runs put a new one on and get a new diode the diode has a silver band on one end and that has to go towards pos side......................

Re: replaced solenoid, now nothing
Appreciate both replies (it is a diode). How do I determine positive side? There is no indication on the solenoid. One side goes to the F/R switch and the other to the fan (?) unit.
Just jumped it and it ran. I did fry the solenoid. Would really like to avoid buying a 3rd one so help on getting the diode correct would be appreciated. Will be putting a tower solenoid on it. Last edited by jcow; 07-01-2010 at 07:04 PM.. Reason: add comment |

Re: replaced solenoid, now nothing
The stripe on the diode goes toward the positive battery terminal....see attached file.

Re: replaced solenoid, now nothing
Great stuff. I really appreciate it. One last item I need to determine is the wiring on the large posts. I have been told it makes no difference which white wire goes on each post but want to be sure. One wire goes to the controller and the other goes into the V-glide unit.
correction; one goes to v-glide the other to the f&r switch. No controller on this |

Re: replaced solenoid, now nothing
Guys I could use your help again. I replaced the solenoid and diode and still have no power to the cart and no click from the solenoid. The wiring is correct and the batteries fully charged
It is a 96 DS with the V-Glide. When I jump the solenoid the cart does move. Getting desparate here so any suggestions are welcome Thanks |

Re: replaced solenoid, now nothing
Are you getting power to the activation circuit of the solenoid?
