Default Torque Converter

I am building a gas golf/go cart froom an electric frame. The gear ratio of the electric's rear axel that i have is only 12.44:1. What i would like to do is get a series 40 commet conveter ad hook it up to my Briggs 8hp engine, but how much would the converter acually change my gear ratio?

And also what would make it work better;
Should i connect the sprocket that then connects to the rear axel to a seperate jackshaft or should i connected to the driven gear on my torque converter?
