Default Engine Swap from 295 cc to ??????

I just got a donor cart from a friend, not sure the year ??? it is a workhorse xl800 and had a 295 Robinns engine and they pullied it apart for some reason. I was planning on installing something different and would like to know what could fit in this location? Also what shaft do I need to look for when purchasing the replacement engine. Can I purchase a different clutch that would fit a Briggs 18 hp or 16 hp vangaurd??

Any help would be appreciated and I have the ability to custom fab brackets and stuff like that so it doesn't have to be an exact bolt in.

Thanks Kerry

The 800s are the smaller size workhorse carts (same size as a golf cart) The vtwins briggs engines are big fun, cam'em up and they sound like Harleys. You can get clutches for any straight shaft engine. Sled engines are a great bang for the buck if you can put up with them. they run the same type of belt setup. I believe you'll end up making your own engine frame if you go with non stock engine. on most vtwin carts you need to lift them about 6" for room but if you make your own engine frame you can drop it down for room. just depends on what you want the cart to be like.
