My 2004 295cc rattles , "fairly bad to me" is this normal on ezgo engines? I have done some measuring on both ends of rods and seems ok acording to specs. any ideas?

It's possible. I'm guessing you have the engine tore apart, was it making noise when it was running? |

Re: 2004 295cc rattles "?"
maybe there is large carbon build up on the pistons making them hit the head.

Hello Pizzamaker & Co,
You may be right but i'm also thinking of the same carbon but glowing after shutting down the engine and / or to high compression caused by to much carbon. Both cases are the cause for Dieselnoises, so selfignition. Did you open the engine? In that case, did you take a new head...... (Piece between head and engine)? Is the head shaved? Take 2 head.......things and look if it is better. If opened, i hope you did the timing right. Another possibillity is breaking out one tooth of the timingbelt or a loose belttension or a broke (litle thing on the balanceaxle) that keeps the wheel on the balanceaxle on its place, so the belttiming is not right The last one is a valve touching the piston coused by a broken valvespring ore something like that. When the piston hits the head i would replace the (2 things between piston and head) before building it together....! Sorry for my writing, its a sunday after drinking a litle to much beer and wine in combination wit not enough sleep. Also not to forget, i'am a Dutchman at age..... Benno |

I'm guessing you ruled noise from a worn rod or wrist pin? I think this is common....
I just wanted to say hello to Benno, a fellow Dutchman with pretty good english and a love of beer can't be all bad. |

Re: 2004 295cc rattles "?"
goodness gracious benno its a good thing i like a good whiskie cause i would't understand your typing if i did'nt ..The pistons are very clean (no carbon) to be found .Its the original head with new valves and the timing belt is fine, It's an 04 motor could it be worn out at sutch a young age? Scottyb could the rod and wrist pin be shot after 5 years (KEEP THE COLD BEER COMIN)
