Re: battery issue
My dad is a mechanic, but I hate to bother him (he refuses to allow me to pay) if I don't have to.
I charged the battery and it is showing 12 volts. Occasionally the starter will spin, but usually without the belt moving and when the belt does catch it doesn't have enough ummpf to turn the engine over. Judging from these posts, it seems that the belt MIGHT be the issue. Can it be tightened or do I need to get a new one? Go to your Dad. He will be happy to share some of what he has spent a lifetime of work to learn... you could use some basic mechanical orientation. |

Re: battery issue
You say that sometimes the starter will turn.
If your belt is tight and you step on the pedal and hear a click(the solenoid) but nothing happens you could have starter problems. Usually if you hear the click you can rotate (carefully) the starter by hand and it should spin. This would indicate brush/commutator problems. Try and get more detail and post again. Also, I'll gladly take your $ lol |

Re: battery issue
OK, battery was holding a charge, but under a load it lost it. I replaced teh battery and all was well until...
I tried taking off and the darn thing surged and lunged like I was goosing the pedal. I called my BIL and he gave me some things to try. I blew out the fuel filter - no luck. I pulled the fuel pump (or what I would call the pump) hoses off and tried starting it. when I put it back together it runs like a champ. Anyone want to take a guess as to WHY what I did worked? It was really just dumb a.. luck on my part. |

Re: battery issue
I'll take luck over skill any day.
Perhaps you removed a partial blockage in the lines. Perhaps the problem will return. This is where the luck comes into play! |

Re: battery issue
I don't know...skill helps get it done a second time.
I thought it might be a blockage, but not sure where. |

Re: battery issue
Mine was doing the same thing and the charger would only charge it to 10.5 volts. I looked at ny old suburban battery sitting there and thought hmmmm. It bolted right in and started immediately.
