starting problem
I have a 1981 marathon with 225 robbins, It turns over but will not start. I have good compression (135) good spark, and a some fuel to the carb. It will start with gas to the plug hole but runs for a second. Any ideas please feel free. I'm not sure how mutch fuel fuel pump is supposed to pump. A little help please would be appreciated.

Re: starting problem
If it runs when you put gas to the plug hole and then stops that means you have a gas problem. I would check the fuel pump and if it is pumping I would then look at the carb. You can pull the hose that goes from the pump to the carb and turn it over and if it is pumping fuel then most likely you need to clean the carb. You can clean the carb without a rebuild kit if you are careful not to nick the rubber seals when you take it apart.
