Yamaha G16 Battery Charging
I have a new to me G16 golf cart and I am new to electric golf carts. It hasn’t been charged in probably a year. Earlier today I went through the batteries and made sure that the water was above the plates. After that I plugged the charger into the cart, a one year old DPI charger. The charger jumped up to 17 amps right away. After it had been charging for maybe 5 minutes it sounded like the batteries were boiling. So I unplugged the charger and checked the water again and plugged the cart back in. Same thing happened again the charger jumped to 17 amps and the batteries made a boiling sound rather quickly the second time around.
Is this normal in electric carts that haven’t been charged for a while for them to sound like they are boiling? Is it normal for electric carts to charge at 17 amps? |

Re: Yamaha G16 Battery Charging
Sounds pretty normal to me. Might want to charge it outside. As the electrolysis is creating hydrogen & oxygen (a flammable combo).
