Default My moneypit needs a new battery!

It is unbelieveable how much money I have spent on my junker G16. Well, looks like it is tme for a new battery. The old battery was a 275CCA Lawnmower battery. Is it okay to replace it with another Lawnmower battery, or do I need to use a small car battery?

I put a group 78 in mine- serves as a back-up for one of the family cars if we would ever need one. Or it can jump a car if need be.

I just go to walmart/etc and get the cheapest car battery, last time they were $35 or so. Get the one with posts in the right places, should last you minimum 6 years if you don't run it dead often or freeze it. The last two batteries in my cart were from trucks that got weak in the winter, I run them a couple years then toss them. If you don't have the coin and the lawnmower battery is cheaper (here about $20) you can run one, but they don't last maybe half the time a car battery does and don't hold near the power. I can jump cars with a car battery if I need to, leave the lights on, etc. It is cheaper per year and peace of mind to run a larger battery, just don't buy one of those $60 ones unless you have some other need for it....that is another option buy a new one for your car if its getting old and use your car battery in the cart, if you can make the terminals work.

I've been using the small walmart batteries on my G2 for a long time. They usually last me about 2-3 years and all I do is keep a small 12v solar charger on it. I just had to replace my battery last week and the batteries are up to $45 now.

I had optima's in my Duramax and Tahoe, 4 yrs. I was not impressed, no better than a regular battery.
But I did put a top of the line Auto Zone in my golf cart tho.

LOL, I helped someone put 6v trojans in their 5th wheel the other day and thought of you electric cart people. I trail ride up to 6 hours once, so they are not for me, plus you have to spendy a lot to get some speed out of them. But yes they have other advantages. I just don't see the point of an expensive battery if you don't have high loads on them....because the battery will die of old age anyway in not that much longer than a cheap one. You may get 20% more years out of it or something in my experience for near twice the cost. Sure I like good batteries, and if I was going to run a winch/extra lights/stereo/plow/etc then a normal car battery instead of a cheapie would be a good idea. Just my .02 from what I have seen....and if you have the cash nothing wrong with a good battery it can be insurance on occasion.

The gel batteries are nice to mount in odd places and positions, some are nicer for high current apps like large sub amplifiers, otherwise I doubt they help a normal car. Here you want a good/larger battery in your car in winter, but the cart takes so little power to start even a cheap one will spin it at 10F degrees if you want to take an ice ride....and that was after it sat in a shed for three months of mostly freezing nights. Just make sure you put some dry gas in it before it gets freezing out lol.
