Default Which clutch is better?

The kids were driving the G16 with the stock motor and the drive clutch locked up. I removed the clutch cover and found that one of the weights had actually come past the roller and was sticking out and held the clutch all the way shut. I removed the clutch from the engine I took out of my other G16 and installed it.

My question is, in the picture of the two clutches the one on the right is my spare one and the one on the left is the one that locked shut on me. The one that locked shut only weighs about half as much as the other one but it looks like it would be a stronger clutch. Which one is the better clutch?

You can also see in the other picture the roller that has gone bad that let the clutch weight come out the wrong direction. Any suggestions on where I can get a complete clutch rebuild kit for this thing. I figured that since I need to repair some of it I may as repair all of it.

The one on the right is a Comet 94C ribbed that is an excellent clutch, although the other roller clutch would be a higher performance clutch, if .......

.....yamaha had put a spring in it and you could change the weights and springs to tune it.

Sure looks like a stock yamaha, you can get the parts for it and fix it. Not that bad there are posts here with detailed instructions. They are a good clutch on a stock cart but you can't do much to them, or not easily. Plowman has some kits and such if you need more performance.

Your stock Yamaha clutch is a Comet and does very well (except no return spring, and not needed if working correctly), replacement rollers are available from Yamaha or aftermarket and less price then a replacement unit. One real problem is overgreasing. I see grease on the floating flange runners the plastic slides move on and the roller's, there should be none. This can cause premature roller failure. Did you have "goobs of grease" inside the clutch cap? Good luck on whatever you choose, let us know.

There wasn't a lot of grease in the clutch but evidently enough to cause issues. I will be ordering parts to rebuild it. It may be about a month before I get to it at this point though. I have a large fundraiser to work the last weekend of this month and I have to have everything cleaned up and out of my shed for my daughters high school graduation by the middle of next month. So for a while I will be pretty limited on getting anything done on my projects.

Thanks for the information all.
