Default G1 driven clutch nut: removal

To remove the castle nut holding the clutch, should it be turned clockwise? I have tried turning it both ways to no avail.

(To remove the G2/G9 nut, it should be turned counterclockwise like most nuts as I have learned yesterday from another post).
