Time for new batts!

So when I traded for my cart (1st one) I got July 2011 Trojen T875 on it. I quickly found out they were not cared for very well. I had to add over 1.5 gallons of distilled water to them. That was back in the fall of 2012.

I was able to nurse them back to health and get 2 years out of them.

In my current set up, I'm only getting about 3.5 miles per charge, on off road type conditions. (CC DS 2002 series, 48V, 6 in lift, 700 amp motor/controller set up) BTW, after charging and resting, the pack voltage is 50.9 volts. So I feel confident that my charger is still doing it's job. Maybe I only have one or two bad batts, but I have read enough on the site to not try and patch my issue with just a couple new batts. So that said and with the history of this pack, it's time for a new set.

So I have a quote for a new set of Crown 165s at $99.00 per battery. Dropping off my cores and picking up the new set tomorrow.

I have read a post or two here about treating the new terminals with some sort of coating or corrosion protectant before I connect my cables back up. The problem is I can't remember the name of the stuff.

Any suggestions for me?

OK, new batts are in..... Took advantage of the fact the old battts are out and did a little clean up.
I ended up using an over the counter dielectric grease for the terminals. Then I sprayed each terminal with a "brake noise reducer" spray.
The tech at Club Car suggested it as a corrosion protection/reducer. It doesn't look much different that a typical battery terminal spray. But it does seem a bit thicker. We'll see how it goes.
Anybody heard of using that stuff or used it themselves?

If you dicided to cut those hold down bolts off that are sticking up. Be SURE you take them off the cart and away from the batteries. NO SPARKS ALLOWED around the batteries.

Good point! But they don't really bother me for now. Will definetly take them out before cutting if I do go that way.

I cut a small circle into a piece of cardboard and used it as a stencil when I sprayed the protectant. Not perfect, but much cleaner......

I don't think it will cause any harm, but I cannot image that preventing corrosion from battery acid and hydrogen gas is a design criteria for "brake noise reducer".
