My buddy Kevin expressed that opinion when he saw the new bearing I bought. He didn't think much of the bearing construction. He is very smart on matters like this. I just drive the darn things!

And fix them when I break them.....

Not really difficult to remove the inner race from the axle. Light taps with a hammer and a straighedge and it slid right off. The old race had a mirror finish on the inside surface and the axle has the same mirror finish on it's face. Super-smooth, no defects or coloring. New bearing has the same mirror finish on the inner race.

We always replace them in pairs.
2 yrs ago, I had a guy call me he had the same situation in a glorified TXT (western) and he wanted one bearing installed. He said all my friends use you won't you just put one bearing in my cart? I gracefully declined. I explained I do a pr and seals or nothing. 2 yrs later I still have a happy client If you do just one side you may well be going back in for the other side in 2 months or who knows when, they have both made the same revolutions and miles

Agreed! I would never do just one side of my camping trailer.

Just a thought but would the hub tighten up against the inner race to lock it on the axle and cure the "loose" condition?

From they way I see it, the hub bottoms out on the axle splines way before it could put any lateral force on the bearing races. Also, the bearing is held in place by 2 snap rings on either side of the bearing. The snap rings locate the bearing on the axle.

Any one have an exploded parts diagram of this area?
