What are some of the best upgrades for PDS
Hello all. First time poster. I recently acquired a stock PDS cart frame and motor. She's now rigged up with a Jake's 6" spindle lift and some tires and rims 22" I believe. I added the led lights (which are not that bright by the way) and have plans to add a rear seat. Now for my questions. I hear about hill climb and speed chips. What is better for me. Cart will rarely be used on pavement but rather in fields and woods with some slight hills. This is Louisiana and our highest point is the Miss. River bridge! What is the difference between hill climb and torque chips? Any other upgrades to look into for a PDS or anything to watch out for. I read about not letting it coast down a hill too much.
Thanks in advance |

Re: What are some of the best upgrades for PDS
Welcome to BGW!
Attached is the various "Chips" and a list of the four PDS modes. The difference between modes is the top speed and the amount of Regen Braking. Torque is the same is all four modes. Those 22" tire will soon kill the stock PDS controller, so replace it with an aftermarket controller like an Alltrax DCX400 (or bigger) when the smoke leaks out. You will also want to replace all 10 high current cables with 4Ga or larger and upgrade the solenoid to natch the controller. Last edited by JohnnieB; 12-18-2012 at 10:20 AM.. Welcome!!! I agree with JohnnieB. Those upgrade are extremely successful. Most members notice a huge gain in cart performance. I as well am getting ready to upgrade my cart.

Re: What are some of the best upgrades for PDS
I have the PDS and although these guys know a whoooole lot about carts, I'll have to say that when I put a chip on mine, it just wasn't what I was expecting. I didn't notice a difference until I went with upgraded cables and a 400 amp controller. Even though I still have the 36v stock motor running on a 48v upgrade, I can see some serious improvements.

Thanks guys. I had the local cart shop put a new controller for me. How do I tell what kind it is. I took the cover off and don't see any markings.

Can you take some pictures and post them? I'm sure some one would be able to identify the controller.

Re: What are some of the best upgrades for PDS
I just put a J2 freebom chip in along with new batteries and wires in an otherwise stock 2005 EZGO. I never heard any beeps. The performance is better but then these are new batteries and wires. How do I get it to beep so I know the chip ius working?

Re: What are some of the best upgrades for PDS
So while waiting for a response I did some searching here. I found the buzzer location and after some tweeking with the cup holders I was given very limited access to the area. Sure enough one wire was disconnected from the annoying beeper. I reinstalled the wire and got my diagnostic mode. Fourbeeps and then a constant until I switched out of reverse.
I wish there was better access. I'm thinking of taking a hole saw and adding a access port from under. |

If the cover is on the controller it is not big enough
400 amp Alltrax and a 7th battery is the HOT ticket for this cart. More speed and torque than so called chips .... Enjoy. |
