Default charger question

hey guys,

I am wondering if you guys can help out? i have a superbrain 977 charger for rc cars, it says it can do lead acid batteries but the directions do not state any settings.

i am wondering if anybody has used a charger of this type for 8 volt gc batteries. i thought it may be good for the initial off the shelf charge up.

if there was a thread on this i missed, i apologize. I didnt notice one.

Thanks, Dan

According the the manual, it uses auto-detect for lead-acid.

Looks like it has two channels, so you can charge two batteries at same time.

It only puts out 5A, so it will take a long to to do an initial charge on a 8V Golf Cart battery.

Thank you for taking the time to check it out.
It keeps detecting them at 6 cell and i believe they are 4 cell. i just don't want to hurt the batteries.
i have a dpi 48v on the way from scotty ,just figured while im reassembling the cart i could charge them individually.

Sounds like it thinks they are NiMh or something like that. (Lower volts per cell, so it thinks there are more cells )

Go ahead and use it, it won't hurt them, it only puts out 5A max.
The important thing is to get all the batteries up to the same at-rest voltage before you start charging them in series with the 48V charger.
(At-rest voltage is at least 6 hours after they come off being charged.)

If the battery pack get out of balance (over 0.1V difference between batteries) in the future, just put the 977 on the lower voltage ones for w while to bring the voltage up to what the rest are. No need to disconnect cables.

What 8V batteries did you end up getting?

BTW - You will love your DPI charger.
Just plug it into the cart when you get home from a ride and forget it, other than routinely checking the electrolyte levels and cleanness of tops and terminals.

I can set it to 4 cell, so. i will give it a shot and see how it does

Thanks for the reassurance.

At the moment i got the autocraft batteries, $75 a piece no tax through my account. I am waiting on a price on the t890 and the new trojan ranger line from the closest place that can get them. I am building a cart for a friend and he will take these batteries.
