Accupower charger not working properly
I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.
I am trying to charge my newly acquired 1989 CC golf cart. The charge indicator, which is new, showed "empty". When I plugged in the charger it read 2 amps and never went any higher than that. It has been charging for 24 hours. The battery indicator has come up just out of the red and the voltage went from 36v to 40v. The previously owner said the batteries are fairly new. They look almost new. I don't know if the charge indicator or the Accupower charger is working of if the batteries are OK. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you...John |

Re: Accupower charger not working properly
I am wondering if all your batteries together are to low to charge. Maybe they need to be charged separately to get them up high enough to accept a charge.

Re: Accupower charger not working properly
The charger won't turn on at all of there is too little charge on the batteries. You need to determine what pack voltage is

Re: Accupower charger not working properly
Check the water level in the batteries. Actually the electrolyte level but it's refereed to as the water level.

Re: Accupower charger not working properly
Thank you all,
The batteries are at 6.3 volts each. Water level is where it should be and specific gravity is OK. I found the charge indicator marked 36 volt was actually 48 volts. The charger is charging but only at 2 amps. The ammeter never goes over 2 amps. Even with fully charged batteries shouldn't the charger when first turned on register up on the scale then return to low amps? Thanks, John Last edited by kattiegirl; 12-01-2013 at 09:11 AM.. Re: Accupower charger not working properly
Yes, the initial bulk charge rate should be 15 - 20 amps for a 36v pack. THis can last from 15 min to 1.5 hours depending

Re: Accupower charger not working properly
Beginning to think you have a bad meter on your charger. When you turn it on does it abruptly stop at 2 amps? Or does it overshoot a little and then come to rest at 2 amps. Also try tapping on the meter and see if the reading changes. I thinking if the reading was really 2 amps your cart would never charge. It's almost 25 years old.

Re: Accupower charger not working properly
Thank you to everyone for all of the help. Sorry about the slow response.
I checked the meter and it is OK. When first turned on the meter never goes past 2 amps. I bit the bullet and got another charger. Everything is charging as it should...John |
