Re: 87 ezgo will not start
Sounds like the engine is running good. Show a video of the clutches while up on blocks.
How wide is your belt? 1 3/16" is new. Anything less than an inch is junk. |

Re: 87 ezgo will not start
Maybe the gas tank vent is blocked and you are pulling a vacuum in the tank?

Re: 87 ezgo will not start
I will check the tank, but I think I did it with the cap off once or twice.
should the filter be full of gas , 3/4 , 1/2 , 1/4 ? here's a video of the clutch operation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Lw2aPxfnDA and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCjDUJUlOXE |

Re: 87 ezgo will not start
Your driven clutch has issues. Those round bumper stoppers should be up against the ramps on the outer angled cone and not having that big gap between them.
Need to disassemble the clutch and check it for broken bits and parts. Use the manual and post some pictures. Are you are holding the throttle all the way down in the video or feathering it? If its held down Either the throttle linkage or the governor has some issues. You can just barely see the carb butterfly. It should go all the way to fully open and stay there until you let off the throttle or you reach top speed. You can see if go full then back off and continue to bounce back and forth. On one vid it only goes full throttle when right before you let off and it shuts down. |

Re: 87 ezgo will not start
I swear that I'm hearing a miss. It sounds like it's breaking up.
I will have to go look at my wear marks, but it looks like the belt is not going full travel up the drive clutch. I couldn't make out anything on the driven clutch. I don't see the ink pen spring on your throttle cable, and you should get rid of the oiler. Remove the banjo, and plug the hole with a 6mm screw. |

Re: 87 ezgo will not start
I was feathering it in the one video,
the governer is not hooked up yet i will look at driven clutch instuctions we heard the miss too, but it was cold with no choke?? I do need the spring for the throttle so it doesnt slam shut. is it normal for the fuel filter to go emptyish when driving? the oiler is just there,I do mix gas n oil in tank, I should just disconnect it? |

Re: 87 ezgo will not start
Yes, you absolutely need to remove that banjo, and plug the hole. It needs to be airtight.
I wouldn't bother with the governor. My fuel filter always looks like it is almost empty. Once it is running, it should not need the choke. Even under extreme cold, my cart jumps to life, and then it wants the choke open right now. Let's talk about springs. The carburetor is spring loaded open. Sitting on the work bench, it should be wide open. The throttle cable holds it closed because the pedal is spring loaded to the up position. Stepping on the pedal lengthens the cable, and allows the carburetor to open itself. All tension needs to be removed for the carb to open all the way. That's where the spring from an ink pen comes into play. It lets you adjust the ferrule so there is full movement, and it makes sure that the throttle cable has enough tension to close the carb all the way. That sweet spot allows the ignition to start before the carb plate opens. It allows smooth throttle response, and prevents backfiring that will blow out your seals. Here are two pictures of my carburetor, and spring. |
