New ST Express blowing light fuse
Any thoughts? It was a 15 amp fuse. Was working fine. Stopped to make an errand, got back on and no lights. Checked the fuse and it was blown. Replaced with a 20A, since it was the only thing I could find, and it worked the rest of the weekend. If the lights are 55 watts, that's about 9A there. Then add in the tail lights...and is 15A too low?
Should I be worried there's an issue? |

Re: New ST Express blowing light fuse
AWESOME! Thank you so much. We're headed back to the resort this weekend and I was wondering if I'd make it again with it. 15A seemed low to me. I'm sure the wiring can handle more then that anyway.

Re: New ST Express blowing light fuse
In my opinion, 15a is too small. I believe you are correct with the head lights being around 9 amps. The tails with an 1157 bulb are close to 30w each so 5 amps there. Not sure what gauge wire you have but I think the factory wiring is min 14g which is good for 15 amps or close to that. I would put a 20 in it and ride..

Re: New ST Express blowing light fuse
So that's 170watts with just headlights and tail lights - 14.1 amps. Add in circuit resistance (wire, relay, connectors, any splices, ect) and you're borderline at best. Wonder why the factory put a 15A in there? Well...I don't think 20A is going to melt down 14g...so my 20A fix should work.
Thanks again. |
