Default 96 ezgo its question

my cart won't move. I've decided to take a look at the inductive throttle sensor and what I found was the rod that goes into it when pedal is pressed the rod is not touching the housing at all. it makes no connection. is there another part that goes there like a sleeve or spring? thank you

I've seen somewhere that when the acc pedal is sitting at the "un-depressed" position there should be like a 17/64" gap between the ITS unit and the rod (slug). Look under "DCS Troubleshooting" in the stickies

The rod should never make contact with the coil. It simply slides in/out of the hole which changes the magnetic properties of the coil. This change is detected by the controller and converted to a throttle signal telling the controller how much throttle has been requested.

Yes - this is an Inductive sensor. No contact with the center pin.

ok I removed it just to take a closer look and found it to have a Crack in it between both posts. if I put a meter on it without anything hooked to it just + and - from meter should I get a reading? if so what setting on the meter should I turn it to? of what symbol? I order a new one just in case, but still would like to test it so I know.
thanks

with no input....the only thing you could read would resistance (OMH's - Ω), but not sure what a good reading would be.....BUT if there is NO reading, that means that there is an OPEN (break in the coil).
