hey guys, just wanted to follow up to this. Looks like it was indeed a low voltage scenario. Maybe solenoid buzz, but new battery pack fixed the issue. It is a totally bizarre thing, it actually feels and sounds like a slipping motor or hub, but guess it was the buzz of the solenoid that i was hearing/feeling.
