Fix for VERY tight brakes after lift?
Just wondering if there is a fix for my 07 Precedent. Just installed a 6" A-arm lift and now the brakes are crazy tight, might even be dragging a little. Do I need longer cables now? Is there an adjustment I am missing? Maybe at the pedal?

You'll need to install a passenger side cable on the driver's side.

david a question for you...............can you take off the backing plates and swap them from side to side and put them on upside down like you can with e-z go??? works very well and gives you all the extra lenth you need..........never tried it on a C.C. .................................

Re: Fix for VERY tight brakes after lift?
I put the same lift on a 2004 Precedent and added the heavy duty rear springs on the rear. I had to adjust the driver side rear at the pedal quite a bit to make it work. The brakes do not drag, but the outer part of the cable is VERY tight between the mount at the back of the pedal and the rear by the leaf spring.
I tried what Shadow suggested on flipping sides to see if that would help and it still didn't give me enough length. I am ordering the passenger side cable like TD recommended......I think they are only about $35-40. |

Re: Fix for VERY tight brakes after lift?
Yes you can. But you've gotta install a longer center pin in the leaf pack to make it fit with the spring plate. It's the cheapest method but the brake cable method is definitely the easiest

Re: Fix for VERY tight brakes after lift?
Yeah I've still gotta figure out what I'm gonna do to my car. I've got the All Sports 6" kit on it now with 22's but I'm gonna try and tweak the lift a bit and get 25s or 26s under it. I just haven't really sat down and thought it out yet on how I'm gonna do it. No big deal though. I'll make something work. I've gotta figure out a brake cable setup for that though. It's probably gonna consist of both mods... the longer cable, AND the cluster-flip.

I loosened the cable at the pedal and that seemed to fix the problem. At least they aren't dragging anymore. Thanks for the replies!

Re: Fix for VERY tight brakes after lift?
It will help some, but check and see if the brake pedal doesn't pulse while braking. As the rear diff rocks back and forth under braking, it pulls the cable over and over and over. This makes the pedal feel almost like it's pushing up towards your foot.

Re: Fix for VERY tight brakes after lift?
I did something with my DS gasser to relieve the tension on my brake cable sheaves,
I know it would work on a DS sparky, but, I don't know if this will work on any Precedents... http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/lifte...-brackets.html Just throwing it out there! |
