if its an 85 it dosn,t have a controller its a resistor cart.......charge the batteries and then jack the rear up and run it see if it runs longer..........its a resistor cart which is a fairly simple setup but its a very limited setup also...............try the above................................

You can do it.....it does more harm to the batteries than the cart. Unless you run low on voltage then you can melt something in the cart.

remember if your gonna dump some car batteries in it do so only for testing but i,m betting you do have a battery problem so get them sorted out 1st and look at your cables while your at it................put a new set on if unsure...........keep in mind its an electric golfcart there is nothing more important to it than the batteries and cables.............................

Thanks, I'm set to borrow 3rd batt and try the vehicle functions on Thursday.
(Thanksgiving - may everyone have a grateful, peaceful day !).

Care to comment on another suggestion I got from a non-cart owner (about 36 vs 48 V)? He says I can buy five 8V batts, and run 40V on existing solenoid, switches, etc - and then convert to 48V later. This sounds iffy to me - overvolting? over-amping? and maybe my charger, designed for 36V, may not fully recharge a 40V series?

If that is a 36 volt series cart, a 48 v upgrade would give more speed. Scottyb is the expert in this field. Search the site for this swap and you will find all the parts that will have to be upgraded. ( batt. charger first)
