Default G9 Airbox Alternative??

Hello guys,

I have about a 1/4 roll of duct tape sealing up my airbox in a G9. I was wondering what, if any, options do I have to replace this thing? I have looked around for an OEM replacement and it seems to be a pretty scarce item. (I posted a WTB in the for sale section already.) I have read a few posts about "cone filters" as replacements, but I can't seem to find any specific information about them. Is there a kit or any specific filter that I can use? You guys have done me right so far, so any info or advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.

aftermarket air filter is the way to go. either k&n or uni. there is a thread within the past week about this. you will have to search a bit.

I just bought three uni filters on ebay for 25.00. They have an 1 1/4" ID and they will work on the carb or in the air box . I will pm you the info if they are still on there.

Smallblock was saying something about, a new canaster only costs about $25 or so.
I would check out a new one, before an aftermarket one. Much better filtering with a stock element.imho.

Hello guys,

I found another thread that shed some light this for me. So, I just bought the K&N universal filter (RU-0160) and the prefilter/cover (22-8009PK). I am going to track down a .042" main jet and see what happens. It sounded like this was a pretty good alternative for a stock G9 motor and a few people have had good luck with it. I will keep a close eye on the plug to see how the mixture and overall performance is affected.

One question, what should I do with the air line that goes from the motor to the stock airbox? Any info is appreciated.

I would just run that line down under the motor or trans .

I usually take the pvc line off, ad a longer line, install a fuel filter somewhere in the line (make sure the arrow points out for proper air flow), and then run it down and out the back. The fuel filter is just to keep some or most of the oil from dripping out of the line.

I didn't realize that line carried oil in it. That must be why the stock air filters come "pre-oiled"? I will give that a try. I'll keep you up to date and ask for more help if I screw something up! Thanks.
