Default DPI 48V. Accusense charger question/problem?

2007 ergo text 48 v.
Normally this charger will come on go to 5 amps then to 17 and settle at bulk charge. I am getting a full 52.4 amp charge and charger does shut off as normal.
Lately the amp meter will go from the 5 amp. Start and stop at 11 Amps and charge from their till fully charged.
Is this a charger bulk charge problem, or maybe amp meter.
Any troubleshoot or checks/advice are appreciated.

Check your line voltage. My charger will start low like that when the line voltage drops to 110v.

I did that it's a solid 117. No problems with a full charge.

You are right to be concerned. I've read here that you need higher amperage than 11 to get the vigorous "boiling" action to stir up the electrolyte, which helps the solidified sulfur compounds back into solution, before they go from soft to hard, which causes permanent sulfation.

I'd call DPI and see if they can offer any help. Worst case, a hundred dollar + board is cheaper than a battery pack.

I've called twice now. Can't seem to get through. I'll try again and keep watching the Batts.

Some companies do better via email.

Just an update. Talked with DPI tech today, after telling him the story, he suggested just get amp meter, because no other faults or problems. Will see. Meter 7 bucks. Might be a cheap fix.

Do you mean a replacement analog meter for your DPI, or a handheld multi meter?

If it's the former, disregard the following.

In case it's the latter...
Do you know how to use an ammeter? Unlike a volt meter, which gives you readings connected in parallel to the load, to measure amps, you need to connect the meter in series with the load. Unless you spend more than $7.

Not a huge deal. First make sure you hand held meter can do 20 amps DC. Then I'd remove either the white or black charger cables to the pack positive or negative. Connect one meter probe to the cable and the other to the battery. It's probably easier to have someone plug in the charge cable, while you hold one or both probes, as you really only need to do this a few seconds. Remember, it takes a little while to sense the battery's state, before the amps ramp up.

Thanks for the info Yurtle, I will test. But I did order another replacement meter for the charger. If this does not work I'll order the board. It's about $150 bucks.
